Why Row Forge Starts With Your 2K

Row Forge

Your own results give training a starting point. Learn how a 2K and other tests build your Viking Power Profile.

Start with where you are

A workout target should mean something to you. The same pace can feel easy to one athlete and very hard to another. Row Forge starts with your own results.

Your 2,000-meter test, or 2K, is the main baseline for your Viking Power Profile. Row Forge uses the average watts from that test to project results for other test distances and times. That gives you a starting point for learning about your strengths and what needs work.

One test starts the picture. Other tests add detail.

Your 2K does not tell the whole story. Short tests show a different kind of effort from longer tests.

In the Viking Power Profile, 100m and 250m tests look at short power. The 60-second and 500m tests look at hard efforts you must hold. The 1000m test adds a view of aerobic power. The 6000m, 10000m, and Hour of Power tests add a view of longer endurance.

You do not need to do all these tests at once. Tests are benchmarks. They are not your daily workout plan.

Know what was measured and what was projected

A measured result is a test you completed. A projection is what the model expects from your 2K baseline. They are different kinds of information.

When a current test falls below its projection, that can point to a training focus worth working on. It does not mean you are unfit. A strong short test also does not mean every part of your fitness is equally strong.

The aim is to learn from your pattern across tests. It is not to chase someone else's numbers or treat a projection as a promise.

Keep the picture current

A missing test is a gap in the picture, not a failure. A test from before your latest 2K may also need a fresh look. Your baseline has changed, so the older result may no longer give a fair comparison.

Use the test dates as well as the numbers. When you retest, aim for familiar conditions and allow enough recovery. Do not turn every session into a maximum effort. Avoid testing when you are ill, injured, or have concerning symptoms.

Your next step

Open your Viking Power Profile and check your 2K result and its date. If you do not have a baseline, use the app's 2K Fitness Test when you are ready for it. If you already have one, look for missing tests or results older than that baseline.

Use that picture to understand the training Row Forge recommends. A useful plan starts with what you have done, then gives the next session a clear purpose.
